Bali and Semarang - put a note on your refrigerator

 Both in Indonesia. Both at the equator, more or less. Both hot and steamy. The note should say: Never complain about anything. 

The children are like children everywhere (Bali).




And they are friendly (Semarang).

We  heard the call to prayer in Semarang (from a nearby cargo ship) but not in Bali. 

Semarang is a real city with some wide streets; Bali not so much. Still traffic but not as bad as Bali. 

Modest to difficult situations in both places. 



Beautiful flowers in each location




Small or subsistence fishing in both locations.

Both places have temples and shrines and respect their ancestors and traditions. 








 
But they are hot hot hot year round - hot and dry or hot and rainy. Medical care isn’t great and post secondary education is expensive. So the note should say:  Never complain; we have it pretty good in the US of A.

 Moorea appears out of the mists like a larger more mysterious version of Bora Bora, which it is. Panoramic New Orleans

 In the afternoon we went on a panoramic bus tour of New Orleans, with stops at a cemetery and at the New Orleans Museum of Art, which is located in a huge park containing both quiet park activities and a botanical garden as well as football and soccer fields and a golf course. Imagine!  But the most interesting part of the trip for me was driving through the now restored areas that had been flood destroyed by Katrina  and seeing from the ground how far below sea level New Orleans actually is. One drives along a main road (not a highway) lined with modest two story houses and ahead the road rises as to go over a railroad or highway.
